Charles Edgar Grisim, 84, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at Ogden Regional Hospital on August 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born May 12, 1940, in Farmington Village, Minnesota, Charles was the son of Roger O. Grisim and Fay Montgomery.
After completing high school, Charles enlisted in the United States Army in 1958. After basic training and Advanced Individual Training as a Missile Assembly crewman, he received his first assignment to Babenhausen, Germany. Little did he know this assignment would change his life forever. In February 1961, he had a dental appointment and met a woman who would turn out to be the love of his life. Charles and Brunhilde were married on August 7, 1961, and built a 50-year life together, traveling the world and living life to the fullest. Their children, Zelina and Charles Jr., had the best life living all over the world.
Charles was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He loved the United States Army, and our Country. Charles retired from the United States Army at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1979. Charles was a highly decorated Army Master Sergeant. His dedicated devotion to duty and Country was evident to all who knew him. He was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations from Vietnam, Germany, and the Republic of South Korea; most notably the Bronze Star Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster. He was deeply honored when he was selected for the Utah Honor Flight, celebrating his and all veteran's military service and sacrifice.
Charles was a 32d degree Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and the Order of the Eastern Star. He sat on the advisory board of his daughter's Rainbow Assembly, and son's DeMolay Chapter.
He worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in May 1995 as Station Supervisor. He was a real estate appraiser, worked for H&R Block, and volunteered at the HAFB Retirees Activities Office.
In 1996, Charles and Brunhilde moved to Guatemala and owned a coffee plantation. This adventure lasted a year, bringing them back to Tacoma, Washington. In 1999, they purchased a fifth wheel and traveled these United States for the next year. In 2000, they settled in Layton, Utah, to be close to Zelina and grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his daughter Zelina (Steven) Little, Yuma, AZ; granddaughters, Brittany (Christopher) Tanner, Layton, UT., and Jennifer (Thomas) Six, Kanab, UT.; five great-grandchildren, Addyson, Brock, Mia, Nash, and McCoy; sister, Sharon (Dan) Jacobson, MN.; brother, Wendell (Fran) Grisim, NC.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
