Charles H. Hardy

1919-2017

Our beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Charles Harold Hardy, age 97, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2017 in the Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, Utah.

Charles was born on October 7, 1919 in Vernal, Uintah County, Utah to Charles Allen Hardy and Stella Smith Colton.  He grew up in Vernal and loved the outdoors, sports, and family.  He married Berniece Blakely on August 11, 1950.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 12, 1964.  They were happily married for 61 years living in Layton, Utah for over 50 years.  Later they moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah.  After the death of his beloved Berniece, Charles lived in Payson for a short time and then lived in North Salt Lake for 5 years.  He was living at the Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson at the time of his death.

Charles was a Veteran of two wars.  He served in the Army in World War II in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Korea.  He later was in a National Guard unit which was activated wherein he served an additional year in Korea.  Charles loved his native land.  He always loved the symbol of the Nation’s Flag and was very patriotic.  He loved the outdoors and loved to go camping.  In his later life Charles spent significant amounts of time in Arizona with his beloved Berniece.  He was a faithful member of the LDS Church with a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and his gospel.  He always encouraged the family to do the right thing.

Charles is survived by his children, Mike (Bonnie) Hardy, Cheryl (Ted) Galovan, Jeff (Lu Ann) Hardy, Kathleen (Jim) Anderson, and 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by Berniece Blakely his wife, and by Gordon Farrell, an infant son.  The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to staff of the Central Utah Veteran’s Home and Bristol Hospice for their kind care of our father.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Vista View Ward, 900 Eaglepointe Drive, North Salt Lake, Utah.   Friends may call from 9:30-10:30am prior the services.  Interment will be in the Lindquist’s Memorial Garden of the Wasatch, Ogden, Utah.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.
