Charles “Chuck” Lawrence Irsik
CLEARFIELD – Charles Lawrence Irsik, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 15, 2014 after a six year battle with cancer. His sparkling eyes, generous spirit, love of family and friends, and quick wit will be greatly missed.
Charles was born to parents Henry and Martha Irsik on July 30, 1935 in Cunningham, Kansas. After graduating high school Chuck joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954. While stationed at Lowry AFB in Colorado he met his one true love, Doris. They were married on April 8, 1961 and began creating a life together that included numerous moves around the U.S. and six children. During his service Chuck was stationed in Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, California and Utah. He also had a few adventurous remote tours to Pt. Barrow, AK and Goose Bay, Labrador. The majority of his career was in the Avionics/Radar field working primarily on the F-111, F-102 and the F-16. Charles proudly served his country and retired as a MSGT in August 1980.
After his military service Chuck began a new career working for Diebold and retired in March 2001. He could finally devote all of his time to his family and his golf game. He was an amazing mechanic, handyman, gardener, and friend. Retirement also provided the grandchildren with a spirited chaperone for numerous school field trips. Chuck’s hobbies included being and aircraft enthusiast, attaining his own private pilot’s license; an avid golfer who played in several leagues and achieved the prized “hole in one” and an overall sports enthusiast.
Chuck was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devout Catholic, committed volunteer (school, church, community), true to his core L.A. Dodgers, Denver Broncos and Kansas Jayhawks fan, and genuine friend and neighbor. He was blessed with a charming smile, great laugh, and a lend-a-hand attitude.
Charles is survived by his children Matthew (Valerie), Kathleen (John), John (Shellie), Anthony (Casey Jo), daughter-in-law Suzanne (Paul), ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and six siblings. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Doris, his parents, sisters Helen and Monica, his sons Robert and Gerald, and his grandson Evan.
