Charles Jerry Laymon, 64, returned home on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 after a courageous battle with diabetes.
He was born July 2, 1942 to Robert Warren Laymon and Viva Virginia Keyes in Coalville, Utah. In 1960 he graduated from Weber High School.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints, laboring in the Alaska/Canadian mission. After the completion of his mission and returning home, he attended a church dance and it was there he met his eternal companion- Ilene Hadley. Jerry and Ilene were married on April 15, 1965 in the Logan, Utah Temple.
He worked a variety of jobs early in their marriage, but the job he loved began as a volunteer. He began volunteering as a firefighter for the city of Washington Terrace where they resided. This experience opened the doors for him and he began his career as a firefighter at Hill Air Force Base. He continued there advancing from firefighter to crew chief and finally fire inspector, until they were offered the opportunity through Ilene''s work to travel overseas. In June of 1988 they moved their family to Misawa, Japan. They stayed in Japan for 13 years before returning back to Utah in 2003.
Jerry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints having served as High Priest Group Leader and on the District High Council in Japan. He was also an avid genealogist, searching his family tree and teaching others to do the same. He became a true outdoorsman while serving in the Boy Scouts, helping on the local, district and council levels. His infectious laugh will be missed.
He leaves behind his wife Ilene, five children, Candace Campbell, Angela (Mike) Maccarthy, Shawna (Nate) Harding, Robert (Jen) Laymon, Bradley (Heather) Laymon, his namesake and grandson raised as their son, Charles William Laymon, and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank Dr. Senekjian, Dr. Agarwal, Bonneville Dialysis and Applegate Hospice for their excellent care and all the many neighbors, friends, and ward members for their kind actions.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2nd at 3 p.m. at the Washington Terrace 9th Ward Chapel, 5350 South 125 East.
Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 1: 45 to 2:45 p.m. at the church.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
