KAYSVILLE – Our beloved father and husband, Charles Parkinson Lloyd, passed away peacefully due to complications with Parkinsons disease on May 18, 2017. Charles was a valiant man, strong in his faith and had a great love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oa Jacobs, Charles Parkinson Lloyd and Paul B Cannon (stepfather), also his sisters Norma Lloyd Dean (Ross) and Charlene Lloyd Mulkey (Jack).
He is survived by his sisters Lynne Cannon Morgan (Kent) and Kathryn Cannon Romney (Leonard).
He married Alta Rasmussen January 3, 1958 by which he had four children, Pamela Lloyd Elder (Scott), David Lloyd (Kathy Beckstrom), Andrea Lloyd Williams (Kelly) and Marilyn Lloyd Gerrard (Brad). Charles also had one son, Charles P. Lloyd from a prior marriage. He loved his children, his 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was devoted to Alta and together they lived to serve others. Charles served four callings to New Zealand for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints totaling 11 years. Eight of these years were with his beloved Alta and three as a proselyting missionary. He understood and loved the Maori people and spoke the Maori language. He served faithfully all his days in Church assignments being a Bishop in Kaysville, High Counselor in Parleys Stake and Kaysville Stake, Stake President of Liberty Stake, Mission President of the New Zealand Auckland Mission, President of the Missionary Training Center in Temple View New Zealand and an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.
He served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Charles received two degrees from the University of Utah and his Doctorate from the University of Southern California. He was an educator and served as Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Southern Humboldt (California), Granite and Alpine School Districts (Utah) and was a division administrator for the State Office of Education. He was a founding teacher at the Church College of New Zealand. Charles enjoyed teaching math and science in Davis School District and Long Beach School District. From time to time he taught at the Long Beach City College, University of Utah, Brigham Young University and University of Tennessee in his specialty of school finance and school business management.
We will miss his tender touch but feel great peace in knowing the joy he is feeling as he continues to serve and teach even as he did till his final breath.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation and thanks to Sallie Huntington and her staff of caregivers at Chancellor Gardens for the compassion and love shown to Dad.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 7th Ward, 331 So. 50 W., Kaysville. Friends may visit with family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
