Charles A. Ridenour, Sr.
November 16, 1933 ~ July 11, 2018
Chuck Ridenour completed his experience in mortality on July 11, 2018, an outcome of lymphoma. His passing, a sweet blessing, was gentle and easy.
He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Hugh A. Ridenour and Lorraine A. Lessard. He was a Navy “brat” and lived with his parents in many places in the United States including Long Beach, CA, Adak, AK, Seattle, WA, Boston, MA, and avoided the beginning of World War II by a month when his family left Honolulu, HI, and was called back to the states.
Chuck attended high school in Seattle, and joined the Navy in 1952 where he served in naval aviation in various stations, ending in Norfolk, VA, as his father was stationed at Lake Mead Naval Base. He met and married Geraldine F. Jarrett in March of 1957 in Las Vegas and had 61 years of marriage and companionship.
He attended the University of Utah and then took a job as an electronic technician with Thiokol Chemical Corp. He was later advanced to a test engineer and was instrumental in the testing and launching of the Space Shuttle. He retired in 1994 and cared several years for his father.
He was a cub master for the Cub Scouts, helped with Mutual programs, served on the activities committee and employment committee, all within his chosen religious organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed sports, especially football and the University of Utah teams, golf, building, and reading.
Chuck loved his family and grandchildren. He had 5 children, Charles A. Ridenour, Jr. (deceased), Michael R. and Susan Ridenour, Melanie and Kenneth Lemon, Leslie and Sebron Farmer, and Patricia L. Ridenour; 17 grandchildren, and so far 15 greats. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Hugh A. Ridenour, Jr.
