Charles Matthew Rogers

Charles Mathew Rogers was killed Wednesday, October 29 in a Navy training exercise off the Southern California coast.
The family says he died doing what he loved most.
Retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel Charles “Shaggy” Rogers entered the Air Force as a distinguished graduate of ROTC from The University of Texas at Austin in 1993. His assignments included operational tours in both the C-21A and F-16, where he served as an instructor pilot, flight examiner, functional check pilot, flight commander, and assistant of operations. He has served as an initial cadre instructor pilot in the F-16E with the United Arab Emirates Air Force and Air Defense, as well as Government Flight Representative and Chief of Flight Operations with the Defense Contract Management Agency overseeing F-16 production and F-35 flight test programs.
Lieutenant Colonel Rogers was a command pilot with more than 3,500 flying hours. He flew combat support and combat missions in the Middle East during Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, NORTHERN WATCH, and NOBLE EAGLE. He also served tours in Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan.
Charles is survived by his wife, Tonya Rogers, Pleasant View, UT; sons, Cayden and Jonathan Rogers, Pleasant View, UT, Bryson Tree, Liberty, MO, PFC Tyler Tree, Monterey, CA; daughter, Mackenzie Tree, Columbia, MO; mother, Elizabeth Rogers, Austin, TX; father, Charles (Linda) Rogers, Colleyville, TX; brother, Michael Rogers, Fort Worth, TX; sister, Melissa Waggoner, Keller, TX; mother and father-in-law, Diane and Brent Little, N. Ogden, UT; grandmother, June Fleig, Roswell, NM; brother-in-law, Tom Jeppe, Pilot Rock, OR; aunts, Mary Ellen (Leo) Grock, Rochester, NY, and Susan Travis, Conesus, NY; and numerous cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the USO or The Wounded Warriors Project in his memory.
Services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the LDS Church at 386 East Elberta Dr. Ogden, UT. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Rogers, Cayden Rogers, PFC Tyler Tree, Bryson Tree, Jeff Parker, James Mixon, and Jon Tinsley.
