Charles “Chuck” Gordon Sanborn, a proud veteran of the US Navy, passed away peacefully in his sleep February 22, 2023.
The son of Charles W. and Almeda Sanborn, Charles grew up in Hurley, South Dakota. He was born June 29, 1935, and attended Hurley High School.
At the age of twenty-two, Charles Sanborn enlisted in the US Navy. He valued this service highly and would frequently talk about his time spent in service. After leaving the Navy, Charles worked at Western and Delta Airlines for 36 years combined.
Charles was married to Jerelyn (Larson) until she passed away. He later married Traudy (Wagner) in Hawaii, they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in December 2022.
Charles is survived by his wife, Traudy; and their daughter, Rebecca; his daughter, Joni; and son, Jeff; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Carol.
His loved ones will remember his wonderful talks about growing up in Hurley, his stout patriotism, and his love for God. He loved telling stories about his past and he was always willing to listen and give advice if someone needed anything. Charles was a true hero to many people, and we will miss him dearly.
A service honoring the life of Charles will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 11am to 12pm at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse, Utah, 84075. Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in Hurley, South Dakota.
