Charles Sherrell Winn
Charles Sherrell Winn, 83, our father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away August 8, 2015 in Chandler, Arizona. Charles was born on April 15, 1932 in Centerville, Utah to David Griffin Winn and Edith Hughes Winn.
He grew up in Centerville and graduated from Davis High School where he played football, basketball, and tennis. He was an Eagle Scout and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. With his love of education and learning he earned his bachelor, master, and PHD degrees from the University of Utah. He worked for and retired from the Utah State Board of Education where he authored several books on career education that were published by McGraw Hill. He served in the United States Air Force and retired as a Lt. Colonel from the United States Air Force Reserve.
Charles married Ann Kathryn Crandall in the Salt Lake Temple, on August 7, 1953 raising their 4 children in Bountiful, Utah. He later married Marilyn Purol in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 30, 1984 and raised 1 child in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Charles is survived by his 5 children, Steven (Karon) Winn of Mapleton, Utah; Julie (Brad) Angus of Bountiful, Utah; Sallee (Tracy) Nielsen of Phoenix, Arizona; Kathryn (David) Fox of North Salt Lake, Utah; and Amy Winn of Newport, California; a brother, Walker Douglas Winn; 16 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren (with 1 more due in September). He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William Lucellas Winn and David Griffin Winn, Jr.
We would like to thank Sunrise Retirement Center in Chandler Arizona for the loving care and service they provided for our Dad.
A celebration of Charles’ life will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may visit family from 10:00-10:45 am prior to services. Interment Centerville City Cemetery.
