Chelton Stephen Feeny

September 22, 1922 ~ September 27, 2017

When he passed away in Anchorage, Alaska on September 27, 2017 at the age of 95, Dr. Chelton Feeny set a record for longevity in his Feeny family. He had experienced a sudden, critical illness a few days before his birthday. So his grandson, Andrew Onstad, who came from California to visit him, was there with him on his birthday.

Chelt was born in Ogden, Utah, on September 22, 1922 to parents Thomas Stephen Feeny and Margaret Mercer Feeny.

He attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1940. His college education was attained at several colleges in the East, and he received his Doctor of Medicine Degree at Tuft Medical College in Boston. He served in the Army as a captain in the Medical Corps during World War II and the Korean War. Following that, he returned to Ogden, and he and Ruth Andrews were married and had three delightful children, Lisa, John, and Stephen. They were later divorced.

Dr. Feeny practiced as an Internal Medicine specialist in Ogden for many years before retirement. After he retired, he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he had spent some time during his army service and enjoyed the area. He returned to Ogden every year for the Ogden Surgical – Medical Society meetings which he enjoyed and in which he had received an honorary plaque for 50 years of membership and service in several offices in the organization, as well as that of president.

He is survived by his son, Stephen T. (Lee) Feeny; his grandson, Andrew M. Onstad; and his sister-in-law, Catherine “Kay” Feeny.  Preceding him in death were his parents, his children, Lisa F. Curtis and John A. Feeny; and his brothers and sisters, Thomas L. Feeny, Patrick K. Feeny, Margaret F. Pell, and Jeanne F. Killingsworth.

Burial was on October 19, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage with military honors. Alaska services entrusted to Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage.
