Cheryl Lynn Potter, affectionately known as Cheri, was born on July 13th, 1960, in Ogden, Utah, to proud parents Roy Dee Potter and Jessie Laraine Nelson. She peacefully departed from this world on November 27th, 2023, at her home in Layton, Utah, after a courageous 20-year battle with cancer. Cheri was 63 years old.
Cheri attended Layton High School before joining the army, where she displayed her commitment and dedication to service. In 1987, she welcomed her pride and joy, Casey Tyler Potter, into the world. Following Casey's birth, Cheri pursued a degree in engineering at Weber State University, while working nights at the Circle Inn Pizzeria to support her studies.
With her newfound skills, Cheri embarked on a fulfilling career at ATK Thiokol Inc, contributing to the construction of rocket propulsion systems. After many years, she transferred to Hill Air Force Base, where she dedicated herself until her well-deserved retirement in 2021. Cheri was known not only for her unwavering work ethic but also for her unparalleled generosity. Whether it was extending a helping hand to people or four-legged friends, she consistently put others before herself.
Cheri found joy in the sun and water, hosting pool parties or enjoying the lake on a wave-runner. Her favorite vacation destination was Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where she generously donated clothing to children in need. Her warm heart and caring nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Cheri is survived by her loving son, Casey Tyler Potter, her mother Jessie Laraine (James) Schnetzer, and her siblings Debora Ann (Steve) Smith, Micheal Todd (Tracie) Potter, Wendi Sue (Blair) Glesenkamp, and Misti Kae Potter. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, sixteen great-nieces and great-nephews. Cheri was preceded in death by her father, Roy Dee Potter, in 2009.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the cancer foundation of your choice in Cheri's honor.
Private services for close family will be held on December 9th, with a formal celebration of life planned for the summer near her birthday. In this difficult time, let us come together to remember and honor the remarkable life of Cheryl "Cheri" Lynn Potter.
