Cheryl Ann Young
OGDEN – Cheryl Ann Schofield Young passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009 after a 19 year courageous battle with Scleroderma. One of her intensive care nurses gave her the nickname of “energizer bunny” because she truly loved life and fought to the end, even being able to attend the Scleroderma Race in June.
Cheryl was born August 24, 1950 to Adam K. and Fern N. Schofield in the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital in Ogden, Utah. Her sisters were so delighted to have a baby sister that they immediately began the task of “spoiling her rotten.”
She grew up in Ogden, attending Ogden City Schools and graduating from Ogden High School. She graduated from dental assistant school at H.A.F.B. and began working for Dr. Dale Tribe. She was later employed by Dr. Grant Brough, retiring in 2008 due to her illness.
Cheryl became a member of the Ogden Eagles Drill Team, where she met the love of her life, Gary Cosmo Young. They were married May 4, 1973 in Ogden, where they spent most of their married life. For a short time, they resided in Shelley, Idaho.
Cheryl was baptized a member of the Catholic Church on May 23, 1999 and at that time, she and Gary renewed their marriage vows at St. James The Just Catholic Church. She was a member of the Scleroderma Foundation and the Parish Council at St. James The Just Church.
Cheryl loved crafts so much that her husband purchased a $1,000 scroll saw to cut out dollar pieces of wood to keep the women in her life happy. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, going to lunch, and most of all, the cruises and extensive travel with Gary because of his job with Admiral Beverage Corporation.
Surviving are her husband, Gary, her sisters, Sandra (Brent) Innes and Judy (Dee) Spinden; brother-in-law Richard (Joyce) Young; stepson, Quin Cosmo (Elizabeth) Young; stepgrandson Chayton; nieces, Julie Madsen, Cindy Brough, Lisa Wheelwright, Theresa Winter and Danette Ruff; nephew, Trent Spinden; and Goddaughter, Lindsay Everest.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Christopher Young.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 25 at 11 a.m. at St. James The Just Catholic Church, 495 North Harrison Blvd.
Friends and family may call at St. James The Just Church on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. where Vigil Service and Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. You may also call at the church on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
