Chester Woodward
August 8, 1920 – January 19, 2008
BRIGHAM CITY – Chet Woodward passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at home with his family by his side.
He was born August 8, 1920 in Kelley, Wyoming, to John W. and Kate Staley Woodward. His youth was spent enjoying the outdoors, fishing and hunting in his beloved Jackson Hole. Camping with the family was a regular activity and in the winter there were snow machines and skies.
He married Della May Vance on February 17, 1945 in Lexington, NE.
Chet served with the U.S. Army during World War II and he saw action in the South Pacific. After the war he returned to Jackson Hole where he made his home and raised his family. He worked as a carpenter for most of his life, eventually becoming a custom cabinet and furniture maker.
In 1998 Chet and Della moved to Brigham City to be near their children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He is survived by Della, his wife of 63 years, his children, James (Peggy), Mike, Carol Rieb (Dan), 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. He loved them dearly.
He was preceded in death by a son Patrick Dell (1968), and a great-grandson Andrew (1992).
Memorial services were held Wednesday, January 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Brigham City. A Remembrance Time were held in Gillespie Hall from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. with services to follow in the sanctuary.
