Chika Kida
ROY - Chika Kida, 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in Roy, Utah. She was born on May 17, 1920 in Merino, Colorado, the fifth of ten children, to Shichirobei (Nakane) Kosuge and Some Kosuge.
Chika attended the University of Colorado and graduated from the Beth El School of Nursing in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1943. During World War II, she was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served as a nurse at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado. After the war, she moved to Chicago, then to Honolulu, Hawaii and met Dennis Kida. They were married on Dennis’ birthday in 1951 and lived in Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia before settling in Utah in 1959. Chika retired from nursing in 1984 as a nursing supervisor after 25 years at McKay – Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.
Chika enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling and fishing at Flaming Gorge Reservoir and Alaska. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was immensely proud of her two granddaughters and was the matriarch of many memorable trips with them to Hawaii and Disneyland. She stayed close to her siblings throughout her life and frequently traveled to enjoy get-togethers with her sisters.
Chika is survived by Dennis, her husband of 58 years of Roy; son Wes (Peggy) of Salt Lake City, UT; sisters Masa Hoshiko of Honolulu, HI; and Sai Ushio of Alliance, NE; and two grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Shuji and Tsune; her sisters Hisa, Hana, Nami, Tami and Yuki; and her precious son Steven.
Chika’s family thanks the many friends, neighbors and relatives, and the caregivers at Vista Care Hospice and At Home Personal Care for their help and support.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday, December 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 12 from Noon to 12:45 p.m., prior to the funeral.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., immediately following the services.
