Christine Karoline Deppe

1928 - 2014

CLEARFIELD, UT – Christine Karoline Deppe, 86, passed peacefully away on December 17, 2014 following a mercifully short period of decline and illness.

Christine was born April 20, 1928 in Bamberg, Germany and lived through the destruction and privation of WWII. She met my father George E. Deppe, Maj, USAF ret, during the postwar Allied occupation and they were married late in the 1940’s. Mom was a devoted wife through thick and thin until Dad’s death in 1987.

Christine is survived by a son: Tom, (Denver, CO), daughter, Barbara (Seattle, WA), and beloved cat, Bella.

Throughout her life, Christine was a dedicated and loving mother, fastidious housekeeper, and fabulous cook. As I progress on with my life, I become more and more appreciative of the interests and values instilled in me (sometimes painfully) by both Mom and Dad. She was a rock of support to me, dispensing much sage advice (not always what I wanted to hear) and I already miss her terribly.

Although Christine concentrated on her role as wife and mother, she was very proud of her service as a volunteer at St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden. She was a devoted, fairly liberal Roman Catholic who treasured the friendships she shared with the Brothers, and the spiritual sustenance from services attended at Holy Trinity Monastery in Huntsville.

Mom was a lover of fine art, classical and other music, and a voracious reader until macular degeneration diminished her eyesight. Indeed, she was a life-long Tribune subscriber (keep this “Trib” alive and independent!!!) and kept me supplied with Robert Kirby columns and Pat Bagley cartoons.

Christine would love her memory to be honored by conserving Utah’s scenic beauty; supporting the arts; contributing to pet and animal welfare charities as well as those who take care of the less fortunate; and above all cherishing and maintaining our interpersonal and familial relationships.

Much gratitude also goes out to the angels of Hospice for Utah and the staff at Chancellor Gardens for the loving care they rendered Mom in her final days. Also, many thanks to Barry Kelly and the personnel at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary who were so kind to me during this time of loss.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
