Christopher Leiesilika Young Jr.
1937-2020
Christopher Leiesilika Young Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2020 surrounded by his children Dwight and Anita. He was born on December 02, 1937 in Leloaloa, American Samoa to Taliutafa Christopher Leiesilika Young Sr and Uaealesi T Lauofo. He was the second youngest of eight children. His beautiful mother passed away when he was a young child. Later, his father remarried to Arieta and had five children together.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
On October 31, 1964, Chris married his sweetheart, Margaret Sofa’i Tuita’u in Torrance, California. They were blessed with 4 children; Dwight, Anita, Emily, and Newly. Chris and Margaret worked and lived in the Los Angeles area for many years until they became grandparents. It was a blessing to them to be grandparents so they decided to leave their home in Los Angeles and move to Utah in the fall of 1996. They found their permanent home in Bountiful, Utah where they resided for 24 years.
Chris’s strong faith and trust in the Lord is what gave him hope and strength to endure the stroke he had 33 years ago. With the limited physical activity Chris had many interests including working on cars, general handyman, dancing, watching wrestlings, sports and just having a great time with his beloved wife, children, grand children, siblings, nieces and nephews.
Chris is survived by his children Dwight, Anita (Chris), Sonja (daughter in law), grandchildren, great grandchildren, half siblings, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Margaret, daughter Emily, and son Newly Young.
On behalf of Chris and his family, we offer our deepest appreciation to the aides and nurses at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home for providing the upmost quality care, comfort, and kindness towards him. He will be greatly missed but his sweet uplifting spirit, example, love and faith will never be forgotten. We also like to thank our families and friends for their unconditional love and condolences.
A private burial for immediate family only will be held March 30, 2020. Due to the pandemic and CDC regulation, there will not be a memorial service. A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at a later date.
We love and miss you greatly Papa! Families are forever.
