Claire Billings Thain

Claire Billings Thain passed away on June 10, 2014 due to a fall and complications involving pneumonia. Claire was born September 18, 1934 in Salt Lake City to Irene Ethel Bunot and Ross Dwight Billings. She spent her childhood in Idaho and Utah and was a graduate of Ogden High School. She continued her education at Weber State College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University.

On June 10, 1959 she married George Jae Thain in the Logan Temple. Claire was a kindergarten teacher in Ogden and later worked at the US Postal Service until her retirement in 1999 .

She is survived by her husband and their three children: George Todd Thain (Janis) of Stansbury Park, Michelle Bliss (James) of Layton, and Steven Ross Thain (Channing) of Taylorsville.  She is also survived by her brother, John Billings (Gayle) of Bountiful, and eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Claire was a faithful member of the LDS church and held many callings including Relief Society President and Primary Teacher.  She served with her husband as a worker in the Bountiful Temple and as a service missionary at the Employment Services office.

She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed creating clothing, quilts, dolls, and handbags.  She also enjoyed numerous crafts, decorating her home, cooking, reading, and traveling.  And she loved chocolate!

Most of all, Claire was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend who will be missed greatly.  Thank you, Mom, for your example of hard work and enduring to the end.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may visit family Fri. June 13 th from 6-8 pm and Sat. from 9:30 –10:30 am prior to services.  Interment Centerville City Cemetery.
