Clara (Gwen) Gyndel McEvoy
1918 ~ 2011
Our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister returned to the arms of her beloved husband October 6, 2011. She was surrounded by loving family as she peacefully slipped away.
Clara Gyndel McEvoy, Gwen to all who knew and loved her, was born June 6, 1918 in Sutherland, Utah to Clarence and Abigail Prestwich. She was the first of 12 children. She grew up on farms in Idaho, Sutherland, Sugarville and Delta. It was on these farms that she gained her gift of hard work and love for her family. After the passing of her parents, she became the matriarch to all of her brothers and sisters. They looked to her for an example, guidance and love.
In 1940 she married Edward James Tureson, they later divorced. From this she was given her first two sons, James and Darrel. In 1945 the love of her life, Grady Henry McEvoy, Mac to all of us, returned from World War II. He picked her up and never let her go. They were married June 29, 1945 and sealed for time and all eternity on January 12, 1963 in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with two more sons, Samuel and Grady. They raised their boys in Delta and Dugway. She and Mac retired to Wendell, Idaho, where she spent some of the best years of her life caring for her husband, family and garden.
After Mac passed away she moved to St. Marks Gardens in Kaysville, Utah. It was here that she made many wonderful friends and was able to continue to serve. Gwen spent her life in the service of others. She had a gift of seeing the needs of those around her. Many were blessed by her heart, listening ear, knowledge and time. She was very creative. One of her greatest talents was working with her hands sewing, knitting, quilting and crocheting. Many have been blessed by the beautiful work she produced.
Gwen was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a beautiful and strong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. She understood that it was He who carried her when she could not carry what she was called upon to bear.
Gwen is survived by her four loving sons and their families: James (Lornel), Darrel (Kathy), Samuel (Connie), Grady (Jeannie), 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mac, parents, Clarence and Abigail, brothers, Dale and Calvin, and sisters Beth, Aza, Lola and Zolet.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Delta Cemetery, Delta, Utah.
