Clarence Reed Bowthorpe
RIVERDALE a" Clarence Reed Bowthorpe passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011 at his home in Riverdale, of natural causes.
He was born May 28, 1918 in Holladay, Utah, the only child of Clarence George and Nina Bailey Bowthorpe.
Dad grew up in Marion, Utah where he worked hard milking cows and helping with all types of farm duties. He also loved to hunt and fish in the mountains just above the farm. After graduating from South Summit High School, he left for work in Los Angeles for Lockheed. This is where he met the love of his life, Afton Peterson. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, they were married on June 15, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. They settled in Riverdale and raised their family there. They were parents of one son, Alan Reed and one daughter Susan Lynn.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he had been a missionary in the Washington Terrace Stake, Sunday School President and head of the Baptismal Font in the Ogden LDS Temple.
Dad worked at Hill Air Force Base as a machinist retiring after 30 years of service. Following retirement Reed and Afton devoted their lives to serving others. Their home was a haven for their loved ones, and they cared for many who were sick or in need. Their children and grandchildren were the joy of their lives.
Surviving are his children, Alan Reed (Janean) Bowthorpe, Riverdale; Susan Lynn (Richard) Juber, Hyrum; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
