Claron Paulsen

Claron Ownby Paulsen

June 27, 1925 – October 2, 2017

Our joyful, fun loving and adventurous dad (Papa Bear) passed peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 2, 2017. Now he is truly “fine as frog’s hair”.

Claron was born on June 27, 1925 in Logan, Utah to Frank and Ella Paulsen, where he was raised with two brothers, F. Robert and John.

In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he studied in the Naval Electronics School. He worked with the Navy, Army and finally the Air Force. He became a program analyst. He was so proud to have been a major influence in bringing the F-16 and its program to Hill Air Force Base. He received a prestigious award for his contribution.

He retired after 33 years of service at the age of 50. After that time he worked as a realtor and a funeral counselor for Lindquist Mortuaries. He was very involved in serving the community and served on numerous civic committees.

On August 4, 1947 he married his sweetheart, Barbara Gibbons, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They built a home in Hooper and were blessed with seven children. From there it snowballed into 45 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. They celebrated 61 glorious years together before Barbara passed away in 2008.

Claron was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as Bishop of the Hooper 3rd Ward, High Councilor, Bishopric, Elder’s Quorum Presidency, Young Men’s and Sunday School. He loved going to church and rarely missed.

He loved the mountains, oceans and enjoyed exploring the beautiful treasures of this earth. He enjoyed all the little birds and enjoyed singing “Up, Up in the Sky Where the Little Birds Fly”. He loved making up songs but most of all he loved his family and friends. Those were his real treasures. He made sure everyone he had contact with felt special and loved. He lived his life joyfully and endured it well.

He was our rock and will be missed. We love you dad.

He is survived by his children Cathy (Brent) Stringham, John (Claudia) Paulsen, LeeAnn Paulsen, Carol (Dave) Fowler, Teri Kirschner, Wendy (Randy) Wright, and Chris (Jennifer) Pauslen, 41 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara Gibbons Paulsen, son, Paul Gibbons Paulsen, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Friday October 6, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 7, 2017 at 2 pm at the Hooper Stake Center, 5375 S. 5900 W., with a viewing from 12:30 – 1:30 pm.

Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
