Claudean Bennett was born at Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, on the morning of November 20, 1950, to Billie Muir. She was raised in a loving family that included her mother, Billie, her father, Harold Powell, and her brother, Cliff. She attended Pingree Elementary School after her mom was informed that she had been “playing hooky” for weeks and made her go. She made it without fail most days after that until high school started. Then she liked to sleep in. She would tell the story of her dad coming home to wake her up and get her off to class. One day, he woke her with a bucket of ice water. He dumped it and ran before he got hit with her wrath. It worked, though, because she graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1969.

After high school she worked at the Weber County Jail. It was here that she got good at practical jokes and softball. She loved going to local baseball games as an homage to her time playing catcher on the Weber County Recreation Team. She loved horseback riding, western shows, and the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo. She was even known for picking up and bringing home the occasional cowboy.

In 1995 she married Robert Penoyer and they worked at the Pineview Yacht Club together.  Even though they later divorced, she stated that she always loved him.

While working for the Forest Service, she was able to travel. Her favorite trip was when she had a training in New York, and she took her mom with her. They topped off the trip with drinks and a “very expensive” yet “very underwhelming” meal at the top of the Empire State Building. She was very devoted to her mom and dad. She finished her work life off, working for the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City. This makes sense, as she was a lifelong member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. 

After retirement, she could be found at her mother’s counter killing it at SODUKU, drinking coffee at cafes with friends, and watching crime dramas in the afternoon.

Claudean was known for her spaghetti sauce and her amazing clam dip. She loved a good steak and even cooked a lobster or two in the microwave from time to time. She always said yes to a good time and could be found a few times a year sitting at a blackjack table in Wendover. (That is, until her wallet was feeling a little light, and then she would switch to the poker machines at the bar). She was a generous gift-giver who loved the theater kind of movies and the Hallmark kind at Christmas. Most of all though, Claudean was content. She had few needs and wants and traveled through life her own way. 

She passed unexpectedly on the afternoon of September 1, 2022, and she will be missed. 

Claudean is survived by her family, Steve and Ginger Frongner, Shaun and Jenn Frongner, Kyle and Kathy Frongner; great-nephews/nieces: Nyle, Mikaela (Chase), Alex, Gabe, Jaron, Abby, and Cambria; great-great-nephew and niece, Leo and Willow; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and wonderful coffee buddies. 

There will be a “Celebration of Life” memorial service on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
