On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Blain and Claudia were reunited.
Claudia Checketts Edwards, 79, was born on June 15, 1944, to Wallace Reed and Emma Mae Hunter Checketts in Ogden, Utah. She married Blain Delbert Edwards on June 2, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple and they made their home in West Point, Utah, where together they built a legacy of friendship, service and love.
Blain and Claudia were blessed with five children, 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren with two more expected this fall. Claudia loved to be with her family, she attended ballgames, plays, recitals and graduations, she saved every program, newspaper clipping or even coloring page that her grandchildren made for her. She was always caring and supportive of anyone in need.
Claudia had a deep and loving relationship with her Savior. She was first called to teach Primary when she was 12 years old, teaching her class after walking home from junior high school. She continued to serve in various Primary callings for the next 12 years, and then later serving in the Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations as a teacher, counselor and president. Claudia loved to serve the Lord and He blessed her with a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In these years of service, she forged many treasured friendships that exist to this day.
You might have known Claudia as your Avon lady, she sold for 42 years and earned multiple awards in sales. She was well respected in the business and made many friends throughout her years of selling. In her later life, Claudia enjoyed being a part of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, serving in multiple roles, including that of captain.
So many people were impacted by Claudia. She genuinely cared for those around her. She had a strong work ethic, and no matter the task, she did her best and it showed. She always made everything look easy, from raising her children to running her business. We later realized, it wasn’t easy at all, she was just exceptional at life.
Claudia is survived by her children, Gary (Peggy) Edwards, West Point; David (Glenna) Edwards, Syracuse; Tammy (Jeff) Peterson, Layton; Angie (Rob) O’Brien, Syracuse; grandchildren: Scott and Corey Hodson; Tyler, Casey, and Adam Edwards; Amanda Wilcox; Jessi Follett, Lauren Barber, Madi Butcher, Emily Bateman; William and Ben Peterson; Connor, Kaden, Mallory and Addison O’Brien, and 15 great-grandchildren; brother Grant (Randy) Checketts, Hooper. She was preceded in death by her dear husband; her parents; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Jann Edwards; grandson, Michael Peterson; and sister, Arlene Overly.
