Together Again

Just prior to graduation she met her eternal mate, Oscar Leo Briggs of Bountiful, Utah.  They were married September 9, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They lived in Bountiful, Utah; Gatesville, Texas and Brownwood, Texas until Oscar deployed to the South Pacific during World War II.  Cleo returned to Utah while Oscar was overseas and worked at the Navy Supply Depot until Oscar’s return from overseas in 1945.  Their son, Dale was born April 3, 1946.  They lived in and managed an apartment building in Ogden until 1957.  Cleo worked and retired from IRS service center in Ogden.  Cleo and her family moved to their new home in Clearfield, Utah where she lived until January 2015 when she moved to Pheasant View Assisted Living in Layton, Utah and finally into the Crestwood Care Center in Ogden, Utah.

During her teen years at home, Cleo and her mother were involved in writing and directing plays for the local area and churches.  Cleo enjoyed family camping trips, fishing, hunting and boating with her husband and son.  After Oscar retired in 1974, they became snowbirds spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar in 2009, parents, sisters and their spouses, Olive Grace and Lena (infants), Erma (Jay) Tuttle, Vera (Floyd) Palmer, Doris (Sheldon) Colemere and Opal Gailey.

She is survived by her son, Dale (Barbara) Briggs, Layton, Utah, two grandchildren; Jacqueline (Scott) Mahar, Abilene, Texas and Michael (Brenda) Briggs, West Haven, Utah, six great-grandchildren; Mathew, Mark, and Carlee Mahar, Abilene, Texas, Tyler, Morgan and Autumn Smilowitz, West Haven, Utah.  She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Blain Gailey of Salt Lake City, and many nieces and nephews.
