Cleone Hess
June 28, 1917 ~ March 12, 2016
Our loving mother passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on March 12, 2016. Dorothy Cleone Hess was born to Joseph and Elsie Hunter on June 28, 1917 in Ogden, Utah.
She graduated from Ogden High School and attended Ogden Business College. Following her education, she went to work at the US Forest Service until she enlisted in the US Navy during WWII. She was stationed as a “Wave” in San Francisco working in a personnel office for two and a half years. She was honorably discharged February 3, 1946.
On October 18, 1946, she married Max Holt Hess. They made their home in Riverdale, where they raised their four children. She was a devoted and loving mother. She resumed her career in 1968 when she began working for the IRS and then moved to Hill Air Force Base where she retired after 22 years of civil service.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as a Primary teacher, visiting teacher, and in the ward library. She was also a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
After retiring she spent many years traveling the world. She enjoyed making ceramics and spending time outdoors in her yard with her beautiful flowers. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandkids. We will all cherish the many holidays and family gatherings spent at her home.
Cleone is survived by her children and their spouses, Vicki (Brian) Mortensen, Syracuse; Gary (Debra) Hess, Smoot, WY; Richard (Barbara) Hess, Skagway, AK; Craig Hess (Carol) Taylor; 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max on September 17 1977; grandson, Ryan Hess, and son-in-law, Brian Mortensen.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
