Cleve Lanning Bingham, Jr. was born August 5, 1945 in Payson, Utah. He grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah after his father, a B-25 pilot in WWII, retired from the Air Force. Lanning was best friends with his Grandpa, Jack Bingham, who ran an auto repair garage on Main Street in Spanish Fork.
As a young boy Lanning worked at the garage putting coal in the furnace and running errands. Lanning loved baseball and went to all the local games with his Grandpa. As a youth he enjoyed camping with his family and duck hunting with his friends and brothers. Lanning graduated from Spanish Fork High School and then earned a Chemical Engineering Degree from Brigham Young University. Later, he earned an MBA from the University of Utah. For many years he was a manager for Loparex, a manufacturer of medical and other specialty adhesive tapes.
Lanning lived in Alabama during many of those working years but returned to Utah after he retired. Lanning’s hobbies included golf, shopping, and travel. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones, especially while watching any of the golf majors.
He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Cleve and Doramae Bingham, by his brother Sam, and by his son Jack. He is survived by his wife Soon, brothers, Joe Bingham and John Bingham, and by his children, David, Katherine, and Kevin.
Graveside services will be held March 22, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Mountain View Estates Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd. Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Friends may visit with family Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
