OGDEN a€" A gentleman, Clifford F. Judkins, 96, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 at the home of his son, Merlin, of causes incident to age. He never left his room before making his bed, as he did on this day.

He was born July 19, 1912 in a log cabin in Warren, Utah to Minnie East and Charles Judkins. He was the middle child of seven.

Being a lifetime resident of Weber County, he attended local schools through the eleventh grade prior to forgoing his education to help on the family farm. He was an example to all in terms of putting in a hard day''s work. He would share stories of thinning sugar beats, harvesting crops, and gathering produce for $2.00 per day or .03 cents per pound.

Clifford married Lila Call in 1934 in Randolph, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple. Lila passed away June 4, 1988. Afterward, he married Elthura H. Ferrin in 1990.

He honorably served his country in the Philippines during World War II. After returning, he farmed and worked at M.G. Pence, a grain company, until 1955. He later worked at Hill Air Force Base as a parts inspector, retiring in 1976.

Clifford was self-sufficient all of his life. He exercised daily, prepared meals, and drove to visit his wife at a local care center. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as several winter trips to Arizona. He took pride in his yard, gardening, and enjoyed the outdoors.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in many callings.

Granddad, we love you and will miss your stories, your thoughtfulness and your gentle ways.

Surviving are his wife, Elthura, and son Merlin (Karen) Judkins of Layton; granddaughter, Jennifer (Alan) Applonie, Tracy, CA; grandsons, Michael (Shana) Judkins, Syracuse; Tyler (Sara) Judkins, Farmington. He was very proud of his nine great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lila, his infant daughter, Myrna, one great-granddaughter, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday, March 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Friday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded.
