Clinton Delos Hale 1921 ~ 2012
Clinton (Clint) Delos Hale, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and patriot returned to his Heavenly Father March 30, 2012 in Bountiful, UT at the age of 90.
Clint was born June 24, 1921 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Elmer Clinton Hale and Matilda Leone Roundy. He was the oldest of six children. He grew up in Sugarhouse where he attended school, worked, and made lifelong friends that helped to shape the man he became. After high school graduation, he was working at a gas station where he met and fell in love with the proprietor''s lovely daughter, Ida Bernele Christopherson. Despite Dad''s inherent shyness, their romance flourished until it was interrupted by the attack on Pearl Harbor and his subsequent enlistment in the U.S. Navy in January 1942. Nearly two years later, Clint and Bernele became eternal companions November 19, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. Most of his military service was on the coast of Maine where Mom could be with him. Towards the end of the war, Dad was transferred to Guam and Mom returned home to Utah where she gave birth to their first child, Gary, in 1945. Since their reunion after the war, Dad and Mom have been virtually inseparable and totally devoted to each other. In 1948, the family moved to the Washington D.C. area where Dad worked in the Navy Department, bought their first home, and completed an LDS Stake Mission. Returning to Utah five years later, he graduated from the University of Utah and started his accounting career at Mountain Fuel Supply. A daughter, Pamela, joined the family in 1958 and a son, Chris, in 1962. Dad was meticulous in his work, faithful in accepting and completing assignments and callings. He sought perfection in every task. He was a fisherman, photographer, classical music buff, self-taught computer whiz, genealogist and the ultimate Ward Clerk.
Our Dad was preceded in death by three of his siblings: Vern (Pat) Hale, Maxine (Harold) West, and Dorain (Selma) Hale. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart Bernele; his children: Gary (Kathy) Hale, Layton, UT; Pamela (Charlie) Alley, Logan, UT; and Chris (Kim) Hale, Grapevine, TX. Also surviving are Colleen (Sterling) Workman (sister), Judith Smith (sister), Jenny Prows Hale (daughter-in-law), 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be Friday, April 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Bountiful 22nd Ward Chapel, (1000 N. 100 W., Bountiful). Viewings will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary (727 North 400 East, Bountiful) and on Friday from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. preceding the service at the church. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
