Clistia Ruth Hammond Jensen was born on September 9, 1929 and returned to her Heavenly Father on August 21, 2012 after a long, hard battle with cancer. Her parents, Boyd Smith Hammond and Melba Babe Taylor Hammond in Moab Utah, adopted her as an infant. Clistia immediately became the joy and delight of the Hammond and Taylor families. She spent her early years in La Sal and Moab, until her mother passed away in 1935 and she went to live with her Uncle Dilsworth and Aunt Elsie Hammond. When her father remarried she returned to live with them in Moab, Wyoming and Nevada. She pursued an education as a nurse in Salt Lake City and then lived and worked in Salt Lake City for a few years. She married Lavelle Franklin (Mort) Jensen, July 19, 1955, in Elko, Nevada and they made their home in Bedrock, Colorado where she worked as an accountant and business manager for the Redd Cattle Company. They were sealed together in the Bountiful Temple April 6, 2000. Among other things, she and Mort loved racecars. They joined a racing club and raced cars on Bonneville Salt Flats. After her husband passed away on February 18, 1999 she moved to Kaysville, Utah where she lived with her cousin Patricia Peterson, Patricia''s mother Irma Newell, and Patricia''s son Kirk Peterson. Clistia was loved and respected by her extended families and many friends for her warmth and acceptance of all and for her many talents. She had a phenomenal talent for creating afghan blankets that were truly works of art. Her hands were never idle and she created hundreds of these afghans for family and friends. In her later years, when her eyesight made it difficult to do the crocheting, she produced infant hats and toys for charity. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a deep love for the gospel and her Savior. She spent many hours working in the family history libraries and performing name extraction of genealogical records. She was loved by her family and many friends and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 27, 2012 at 2 pm at the Kaysville Fourth Ward Chapel, 875 East 200 North, where friends may visit family from 12:45 to 1:45 prior to services.
Interment will be Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 1 pm at the Grand Valley Cemetery in Moab, Utah.
