Cloy Hodson Child

Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend, Cloy Hodson Child, passed away peacefully, Saturday afternoon, August 30, 2008 surrounded by his family.

He was born March 22, 1941, the third son of ten children born to Evan Elwood and Lucille Hodson Child. He grew up farming in Warren, Utah.

Cloy served in the Northern States Mission for the LDS Church.

In 1963, he married his eternal companion, G. Jewelene Bradam in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they brought seven children into the world. Recently, they celebrated their 45th anniversary and Cloy managed a surprise party for his wife from his hospital bed.

During his life, he worked as a butcher, a mechanic and managed the Mt. Ogden LDS Stake Chicken Farm in Kanesville for 18 years. He spent 40 years bringing the true spirit of Christmas into many homes. An active member of the LDS Church, he served in various positions, though, his favorite calling was that of home teacher. He was a faithful and humble home teacher all of his life.

Throughout his life, he spent his time making other people happy. Our Dad and Grandpa always had something fun for us to do. Camping, fishing and tubing in the summer, family hunting trips and hay rides in the fall, sledding and Santa in the winter, and planting garden plantations in the spring.

As he grew older, he continued to find ways to serve others with his tractor. Every snow storm was an opportunity to clear driveways and help his neighbors.

Cloy was a big man and everything he loved was big. He loved big stories, big fish, big gardens, big family and he blessed the lives of countless friends with his big heart. He did not know the meaning of the words "NO" or "too much".

He is survived by his wife and sweet heart, Jewelene; their children, Becky Child, Portland, OR; Teresa (David) Kearl, Clinton; Daren (Ellen) Child, Salt Lake City; Lorinda Mayfield, Roy; Danita (Kelly) Thiel, Clearfield; Cristy (Loren) Allen, Clearfield; Eric (Lisa) Child, Clinton; 22 grandchildren and one red-headed great-grandson; six brothers, Alton (Lettie) Child, Lynn (Barb) Child, Boyd Child, Lorin Child, Wayne Child, Quinn (Cheri) Child; two sisters, Lorna (Dave) Evans, Zanna Child; and one sister-in-law, MaeJean Child.

Cloy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Val Child.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

Friends and family may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the mortuary.

Interment, Warren Cemetery.
