Clyde Ricks

November 3, 1929 — October 16, 2024

Clyde was born Nov 3, 1929 in Southgate, California. He was the youngest of 9 children. His parents were Hyrum Ricks Jr. and Alice Cheney. November 3rd would have been his 95th birthday.

He grew up during the depression when everyone was hurting just for the necessities of life. All the children helped with small jobs, etc. He remembered going with his father to deliver fruits and vegetables.

When Clyde was nine, his father died. His mother wanted the children to be closer to the church, so they piled their few belongings into a pick-up truck. With his brother driving, and his mother and 2 sisters in the front, Clyde rode in the back with a piano, all the way to Provo.

They settled on University Ave. He attended Provo High and then the Y. He went on a mission to the Western States, which at that time covered about 4 states. He served mainly in New Mexico: Albuquerque and the town of Truth & Consequences.

Returning to the Y, he met Martha Mae Warner in a drama class. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1954. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this past September. They lived in Provo for 2 years while Clyde completed his master’s program. What was his Master’s Thesis? "Pyrotechnics of the Theatre." While living close to the campus, he was an avid fan of BYU sports which continued all his life.

After serving his time through the ROTC in New Jersey, he taught seminary in Blackfoot, Idaho. The family moved to Provo where he taught a religion class at the Y. He had a chance to sell art prints and really enjoyed selling. He then moved on to film strips, records, audio cassettes, videos, and DVD's. These were all the educational materials the schools purchased.

Clyde had a strong testimony of the Gospel. He was faithful in fulfilling his callings to the best of his ability in whatever he was asked to do, from Home Teaching to working in the Temple. He was always on time for church and made sure his family was never late.

After his retirement, he worked in the Bountiful Temple. He often took walks around the Temple. It is fitting that his final resting place is at Lakeview Cemetery, which is next to the Temple. He is survived by his wife Martha Mae and children: Linda (Ken Ford), Randy (Susan Gulbransen), Ron, Lisa (Brady Bingham), 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Canyon Park Ward, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful, where friends may visit family from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services. Interment Lakeview Memorial Cemetery.

Services will be live-streamed, and may be viewed by scrolling to the bottom of Clyde’s obituary page.
