Clyde B. Smith

September 21, 1929 – April 7, 2016

Clyde B. Smith, 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on April 7, 2016 after a courageous struggle of on-going illness and ultimately from pneumonia. He was born in Hyrum, Utah on September 21, 1929 and was the son of Morris Lester and Mary Lucille Smith. He had two brothers, Gayland B. Smith and Jerald B. Smith.

He was a veteran and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas in Germany.

He graduated from the American Institute of Baking in “Baking Science and Technology”.

He married Carol Joy Burton and from this union came his one son. They were later divorced.

He married his life-long sweetheart, Nancy Louise Rose on September 25, 1953. From this union, they had 4 daughters. They spent some of the happiest times in their dream log cabin in Star Valley Wyoming. Clyde built this from the ground up with his own two hands, alongside his family and friends. They also loved to travel, seeing most of the 50 states, enjoying natures beauty, exploring caves, forests, glaciers, and visiting friends. They also traveled many times overseas touring Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Poland and Luxembourg.

He worked 44 years at Wonder Bread Bakery, starting at age 14. He was the Production Manager for many years, well known as “Smitty” and he received numerous awards for his work ethic and dedication. He would bring home bread, twinkies and cupcakes, and it was a treat on Sunday when he would bring home fresh dough for scones.

He was a master craftsman in woodworking, building many keepsakes for the house, cabin and family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, annual Christmas tree gathering, watching sports, dogs, collecting miniature cars, trains, gardening and time spent with their many friends.

Clyde was the type of guy that everyone was drawn too. Most people would say, “I don’t know what it is about that man, but he is such a “great guy” with such a sweet personality”. He was a devoted, caring husband, adoring father and grandfather, and a great provider to his family.

Clyde leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Nancy, whom was the love of his life, children, Craig (Vickie) Smith, Nannette (Erik) Norgello, Leslie Price, and Kellie (Chris Meyer)Martinsson, brother Gayland B (Lila) Smith, sister-in-law Noreen Smith Dennis, 10 grandchildren Michael Smith, Michelle Smith, Ryan (Jenny) Rackham, Jamie (Ted) Lucas, Tyler (Lynette) Birch, Trevor (Cooper) Rackham-Evans, Brianna (Richard) Shaw, Natalie Norgello, Adrienne Norgello and Hannah Rose Martinsson, step grandchildren Holly (Dan) Sturm, Dean Withroder, Shannyn (Dino) Gofas, 13 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

We loved you like there was no tomorrow……..and then one day there wasn’t
