Layton a€" Eugene Maurice Kennedy, 73, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Davis Hospital & Medical Center in Layton.

Gene was born in Grand Forks, ND on January 13, 1937 to Eugene Michael and Viola Marie Perreault Kennedy.

He proudly served 30 years with the U.S. Air Force. He was a Viet Nam veteran. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a life member, Past Commander, and current Adjutant of American Legion Post 87.

He married Lois Chase in Papillion, NE and they had 4 children. They later divorced. He retired from MacDill AFB, FL in 1984 and returned to Layton. He married Arlene Schofield Barfuss in Elko, NV in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother, Michael L. Kennedy.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; his children, Mark (Candi) Kennedy, Lori (Don) Laird, Scott (Billy Hill) Kennedy, Keith Kennedy, 10 grandchildren; his step-children, Bill (Cheryl) Layman, Ronald Phippen, Teresa Johnston, Diana (Jeff) Maurer, Angela (Andy Hoskins) Simmons, 15 step-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Larry (Sandi) Kennedy, Jack (Betty) Kennedy, Kathy (Kieth) Sterling, Maryann (Joe) Mielczarek.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Military Honors will be accorded Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 12 p.m. at the American Legion, Post 87, 128 South Main Layton, Utah. Inurnment at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
