Coby Bascom

March 3, 1976 — September 12, 2019

Coby Ty Bascom

Coby Ty Bascom was born March 3, 1976 in Ogden, Utah.  He was the son of Gordon Elvyn Bascom and Sherell Wilberg Bascom Jaques.  He lived in Layton Utah until 1995.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was all prepared to serve a mission and had his Bishops interview on Sunday.  He was to have his Stake Presidents interview the next Sunday.  On Wednesday he was working at the Salt Lake Airport as a roofer.  He slipped and fell, sliding down an angle iron about 20 feet to the pavement below, cracking his head.  He was transported to LDS Hospital where he underwent neuro-surgery.  He was sent from there to a nursing home to die, but that was not the Lord's plan.  He was meant to fill another type of mission.  After we could communicate with him to prove he was mentally competent he was sent to Center for Neuro Stimuli in Bakersfield, California.  He was there for 9 months, and touched many lives.  He then came back to Utah and lived at Learning Services for the rest of his life.  He loved the staff and clients there and made many friends.  He has taught much thru his years despite being in a broken body where he could not talk or walk.  He was never bitter or mean about his trial.

He passed away peacefully on Sept 12, 2019 in his sleep.

He is survived by his parents and two brothers, Tamber G. Bascom (Linda), and Darby Chal Bascom (Laura) and eight nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his step-father John L. Jaques who he loved dearly.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the LDS Humanitarian Fund in his name.

A huge thanks to the staff at Learning Services who have cared for and loved Coby for the past 20 plus years.
