Colonel Robert B. Ladd USAF (Ret)
LAYTON - Col. Robert Byard Ladd USAF (Ret) distinguished fighter pilot, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, died September 8, 2009 in Layton Utah of causes incident to advanced age. Born in Thistle, Utah, on July 10, 1917, to Genevieve and George Ladd. He graduated high school in Salt Lake City and received a degree from the University of Syracuse.
Robert was highly decorated officer who served our nation for over 35 years. He flew combat missions in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Over his career he recorded over 6,000 flying hours, 500 of which were combat time. A test pilot with the Air Force he was the first to fly the now famous F-100. His last assignment was as Commander Defense Depot Ogden.
Actively involved in the Ogden community, Robert served a second career as an administrator at Weber State University. He managed the expansion of the student union, reflection pond as well as the renowned Stewart clock tower. During this time he also served as a member of the Weber County Sheriff''s Mounted Posse, Ogden Rotary Club, Weber Club, the Ogden Country Club and the Order of Daedalus.
As a devoted family man, Robert was married to Roma W. Ladd for nearly 38 years before her passing in 1981. He then met and married Evelyn Glasmann Maw Ladd. He and Evelyn successfully championed several Arabian horses. They spent 28 delightful years together.
He joyfully oversaw his large family: sons Kenneth G. Ladd (Dee), William Morgan Ladd (deceased) (Debbie), T. Rick Maw, K. Randy Maw; daughters Robbin A. Ladd PHd, and Susan M. Van Alfen; 14 grandchildren (two deceased), 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchidren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services under the direction of Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
