Colleen S. Ballow SOUTH OGDEN – Colleen Snow Ballow, 83, of South Ogden, died peacefully Friday morning, May 15, 2009 from causes incident to age. Colleen was born August 31, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Don Carlos (Carl) Snow and Pearl Blackett Snow. Within a few years, the family moved to Nephi, Utah where Colleen spent her early years and graduated from Juab High School in 1943. Following high school she attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. In 1942 Colleen met Henry D. (Bud) Ballow, Jr. while he was on military leave during WWII. It was “love at first sight” and on November 4, 1946 they were married. One year later their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Bud worked as a Quality Control Specialist with the Minuteman Missile program and later at AFPRO/Thiokol. Colleen and Bud spent many years living in Denver, CO, Rapid City, SD and California before returning to the Ogden area in 1966. During these years, Colleen supported her husband in his career, performed duties as an excellent wife and mother, worked in the schools, and demonstrated her artistic abilities through sewing, crafts, tole painting and china painting. The couple raised three children and enjoyed doing many activities together, especially traveling. Bud died in 1985. Colleen married Loren Alma Heiner in 1990. Their marriage ended in divorce but they remained friends. Colleen was an accomplished china painter and shared her skills with many people as a certified china painting instructor. She volunteered numerous hours at the South Ogden Senior Citizen Center and was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, South Ogden China Painters Association, and Utah China Painters Association. Colleen continued with her love of traveling and visited numerous world sites. Colleen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ogden 65th and 5th Wards, serving in many capacities in Primary, Relief Society, Ward Librarian and Ward Choir. She had also served as a temple worker at the Ogden Temple. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Marie (Grant C.) Holmes of West Weber; Diana Lynn (Kim L.) Wilberg of Woodbridge, VA; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Clark Blackett Snow, Tooele, UT; and Robert Darrel Snow, Nephi, UT. Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D. Ballow, her son Michael Henry Ballow, her parents, Don Carlos Snow and Pearl Blackett Snow and one brother, Don Lamar Snow. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Blake Sears of the South Ogden 5th Ward, officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT.
