Colleen Hansen Jenson, our beloved mother and grandmother passed away January 27, 2023 at Fairfield Village in Layton, Utah. She was born on May 10, 1932, in Smithfield, Utah, the daughter of Marlin Evan Hansen and Vesta Leavitt Hansen. She married her eternal companion, Richard Milton Jenson, in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 25, 1951.
She graduated from North Cache High School. She and her husband resided in Smithfield, Ogden, Layton and South Ogden. Colleen led a life of service to her Savior, her family, her friends and community. She lived and taught the gospel in her home. She served in numerous ward and stake callings, including primary organist, sports director, and young women’s counselor. Her favorite calling was as ward Relief Society president where she served for five years. While serving as stake Relief Society visiting teaching leader, she invited Camilla Kimball to speak at a stake visiting teaching conference she had planned. She was thrilled to meet President Spencer W. Kimball in his home when she went to pick up Sister Kimball for the conference. Colleen was very active in service organizations, serving as president of the Child Culture Club and as captain in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Music was a great joy in her life. In her youth she participated in the All-Church Dance Festival and sang with various quartets in church music festivals. Later, she was a member of the Celeste Singers. She was an accomplished pianist and frequently accompanied her husband for many of his vocal performances, which brought her great joy. She taught piano lessons into her seventies. She instilled in her children a love of music. She particularly enjoyed listening to them and her grandchildren when they performed.
Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; brothers, Wendell Hansen and Blaine Hansen; her brothers-in-law, Charles Jenson, Robert Jenson, Leon Jenson, and Kenneth Kraus; her sisters-in-law Leah Jenson, Kathleen Jenson, Faye Jenson, and her granddaughter, Heather Jenson.
