CONCORD, CA a€" Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away at the age of 71, on Sunday April 26, 2009 due to ongoing health problems.

She was born August 17, 1937 in Ogden, Utah to Dale I. and Fern Adams Barlow. She grew up on a small farm in Clearfield. She always treasured the memories of her youth there.

She graduated from Davis High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, LaVar Whitaker on May 23, 1956. They moved from Utah to Walnut Creek, CA in 1961, and started a new chapter in their lives, making a happy home, one that they all treasured.

Colleen greatest joy in life was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had such a big heart and could always see the best in everyone she met. She loved working on her family''s genealogy, and was talented in many ways, writing, quilting and crocheting.

She worked at Walnut Creek Hospital for many years until her health began to fail her. She was always selfless in her love for her family and friends. Her family was truly the light of her life and they will dearly miss her.

Surviving are her loving husband, LaVar C. Whitaker and three sons, Mitchell C. Whitaker, Concord, CA; Scott L. Whitaker, Concord, CA; Ryan D. Whitaker, Davenport, IA; and three grandchildren, Vanessa, Concord, CA; Brandon and Alexandra, Davenport, IA. Also surviving are three sisters, Cheryl (Robert) Parks, Syracuse; Pamela (Michael) Shulz, Layton; and Susan (KC) Halls, Layton.

Preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Graveside services will be held Monday, May 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Clearfield City Cemetery, 1050 South State Street. Friends and family may call Monday from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist''s Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State Steet.
