OGDEN - Colonel Jack H. Alston, USAF Ret., died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in Ogden at the age of 91.

He was born March 18, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Thomas and Leona Goddard Alston. He was raised in Sugarhouse and graduated from South High School and the University of Utah.

Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army Field Artillery and later transitioned to the U.S. Air Force. He served 32 years in various positions as Command Pilot, Staff Officer, and Organization Commander at Randolph AFB, TX; Enid Army Air Field (later Vance AFB), OK; Coffeyville, KS; Wright-Patterson AFB, OH; Norton AFB, CA; Mira Loma Air Station, CA; the Pentagon, and retired as the Base Commander of Hill AFB in 1970. His overseas assignments included Caserta, Italy; Weisbaden and Bremen, Germany; and Ottawa, Canada. His military schooling included Air Command and Staff College and the Army War College. He was a life member of the Air Force Association and the Order of Daedalions.

Following his military career, he worked for Governor Rampton for two years as the Director of Industrial Promotion for the State of Utah.

Jack was married to Mead Larsen and their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Mead died April 7, 2008.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and especially work in his garden.

Surviving are his son Jack D. Alston, daughter Cheryl Lowe, son and daughter-in-law James A. and Penny Alston, as well as six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Burch Creek 5th Ward Chapel, 4955 Adams Avenue.

Friends may call at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the Ward Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City where Military Honors will be accorded.
