Colonel J. Alan Price
SOUTH OGDEN a" Colonel J. Alan Price, USAF (ret), of South Ogden, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at his home of cancer.
He was born in Salt Lake City on September 10, 1926 to Rudger N. and Ida Grace Valentine Price. He was raised in Brigham City, Utah and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1944. He attended Utah State University before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1948. Alan married Cleone Randall in 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Wichita, KS; Portsmouth, NH; Montgomery, AL; Goldsboro, NC; and Annandale, VA. He received his B.S. Degree from UCLA in 1958, his M.B.A. from George Washington University in 1963, graduated from the Air Command and Staff College in 1963, and the National War College in 1968. He served on the Air Staff and the Joint Staff in the Pentagon and on the faculty of the National War College. Col. Price flew combat tours in Korea and Vietnam.
Alan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as bishop of the Wakefield Ward in Virginia for six years, and also served in the Fairfax, Virginia Stake Presidency. After retiring from the Air Force in 1979, Alan served as the director of the Hawaii Temple Visitors Center from 1980 - 1981. He served as mission president of the Philippines Cebu Mission from 1982 to 1985. He and Cleone returned to the Philippines in 1992 where he served as the president of the newly-built Missionary Training Center in Manila. Upon their return to Ogden he served as a stake high councilor, stake mission president and a temple sealer at the Ogden Temple.
Col. Price enjoyed his work as a volunteer at Weber State University for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Cleone, of South Ogden; one son, Clark (Janet) Price, Dumfries, VA; one daughter, Alison Price Hamilton, Modesto, CA; seven grandchildren, Rebecca (Greg), Benjamin (Jessica), Braden, Jordan, Elizabeth, Emma, and McKay, and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Noah, Daniel and Joseph.
Also surviving is one brother, David Price, South Ogden.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard "Dick" Price.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley 5th Ward Chapel, 5735 S. Crestwood Dr., South Ogden, Utah.
Friends may call at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the Ward Chapel 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden, Utah.
