Colonel Robert Lee Bowen, III

Colonel Robert Lee Bowen, III, left this world on September 5, 2017 at McKay Dee hospital in Ogden Utah, after a long and courageous battle with heart failure.  Colonel Bowen was born October 2, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Lt. Colonel Robert Lee Bowen and Mary Sue Byrd Bowen. He received his Bachelors degree from Clemson University in South Carolina and then joined the United States Air Force.

He finished his distinguished military career with retirement at Hill AFB as Manufacturing Director. He earned numerous awards including: The Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and National Defense Service Metal with Bronze Service Star. He also earned the Vietnam Service Metal, and the Air force Longevity Service Award.

Robert is survived by his wife, Janice St.Clair Bowen of Ogden, UT, originally from DuBois Pennsylvania: his children, Lance and Kyle Bowen, and his former wife, Glenda Bowen, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: and stepchildren, Carrie (Gregg) Stubbs and their children, Jariah, Noah, Mia, and Elijah; and David (Tracy) Buys and their children, Myra, Sadie, and John, and Cooper (family pet).

Bob loved life and lived life to the fullest: he worked hard and he played hard. Following his retirement from the military in 1993, he traveled extensively, visiting many distant lands including his favorite Hawaii, as well as China, Australia, New Zealand, France, Corsica, Sardinia, Italy and the Caribbean. He was loved by many for his quick wit, his quirky sense of humor and his generous nature. He will be greatly missed by friends and family as well as all those with whom he came into contact on his life’s journey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday, September 15, 2017, at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday evening, September 14, from 6 to 8 pm and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the mortuary.  Interment in Arlington National Cemetery will be at a later date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Doctors without Borders.
