Conard (Con) Kent Christensen was born Jan 7, 1945, in Preston, Idaho, the youngest of nine children born to James Auraul and Naomi May Nelson Christensen. He graduated from Preston High school in 1963 (predating Napoleon Dynamite). Con grew up and worked on the family farm until he left to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Midwestern United States, 1964 – 66. Con met Linda Bingham before his mission then after returning home married her in the Logan temple on the 22nd of March 1968. They made Ogden, Utah their home until he went into the U.S. Army from August 1969 to August 1971, receiving an honorable discharge. After the Army he and Linda created a home in Syracuse, UT. He worked for the I.R.S. and Hill Air Force Base for a combined total of 40 years’ civil service. He attended Idaho State University for a year then Weber State University at night for seven plus years, earning a bachelor’s degree.
Husband, Dad, Pappy, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Punk are just a few of the endearments used to describe the man we adore. His light and joy came from being surrounded by his family of 6 children and their spouses, along with 29 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Camping and four-wheeling play a star role in many childhood memories. Playing games at the table or enjoying a family baseball game and BBQ were common occurrences. He was always up for a good tease and found pleasure in making others laugh. When family wasn’t nearby, he kept us connected with funny, spiritual, and non-gooey text messages. In his free time, you could find him puttering around his workshop, finding a way to serve a neighbor, or listening to his vast collection of LPs.
Con loved the Lord. Throughout his life he served in various church callings making sure the work of the Lord continued-whether in Boy Scouts or serving as a missionary in seminary with Linda. After his calling in the nursery, he became “the candy man”. Con and Linda had many great experiences from volunteering at the Family History Center. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the building progress of the Syracuse temple through his kitchen window. Con also loved his country deeply and reminded his family often of the blessings we have from living in the USA. He fulfilled his role as family patriarch wonderfully and each of us will miss him dearly.
Con was preceded in death by his parents, Auraul and Naomi, brothers Lyle, Wayne, Glen, Lester, Arell, sister Velma, and grandson Bryce. He is survived by his wife Linda Christensen (Syracuse, UT), children Brian (Janice) Christensen (Riverdale, UT), Carie (Hugo) Parra (Highland, UT), Brett (Lisa) Christensen (Apex, NC), Damon (Dawn) Christensen (Cleveland, TN), Devin Christensen (Monroe, GA), and Shannon (Chris) Mabey (N. Salt Lake, UT), brother Kay Don Christensen (Preston, ID) and sister, LaRene Evans (Brea, CA).
