Connie Ray Hamilton passed away August 3, 2023 in Layton, Utah, with family by his side, at the young age of 91. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Connie Ray was born September 17, 1931 to Thomas Conway Hamilton and Wilma Adeline Kirkland Hamilton, in Lake Alfred, Florida. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Mary Arnelle Donald of Newberry, South Carolina, on July 25, 1950 (divorced). He married Rosalie Elanore Leverett of Florida, on October 10, 1967 (divorced). He is survived by his sons, Robin Ray of West Bountiful, Utah, Danny Evan (Robin Sue) of Layton, Utah, and Timothy Donald of Lakeland, Florida, 9 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas Conway Hamilton, Jr, granddaughter, Emily Hamilton, and great-grandson, O’wyn Cameron.
He was an Eagle Scout and earned 45 merit badges as well as his bronze, silver and gold Eagle Palms. During WWII, when he was just 12 years old, his scout troop collected scrap paper in support of the paper shortage during the war. He collected the most paper earning himself a medal from General Eisenhower. In 1949, after high school, he enlisted in the US Army Active Reserves where he spent 11 years in the service. He was certified as an expert Marksman and served in the Military police. He was promoted to the rank of Sargent First Class and was honorably discharged. Later in life, he was a member of the Black Forest Sheriff’s Mounted Posse in Colorado. He also held other security positions during his career. At different times in his life, he owned two ranches, one in Dover, Florida, and the other in Groveland, Florida. He raised cattle and had horses and various other farm animals on both ranches. He was always a country cowboy at heart. Connie Ray mailed over 80 birthday and Christmas cards every year to friends and family. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting.
Funeral services will be held Friday August 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family Friday from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton.
