Connie Rae Strebel
“Just Me”
SOUTH OGDEN - What a joyous reunion is surely going on today as Mom is reunited with Daddy after 27 years apart. To once again be with him, her parents, siblings, daughters, and the loved ones she held so close in her heart, it must be total bliss. Mom passed away Monday, December 21, 2009.
Mom was born March 16, 1930 in Ogden, to Jeanie Lofquist and Edward E. Linderman.
She attended schools in the Ogden City school district, and Ogden High class of “49”.
Mom married her soul mate and best friend, James F.A. Strebel, on May 7 1948, and they shared their lives and four daughters united in love for 33 years. Dad passed away on September 19, 1982.
She was employed at Utah tailoring Mills and Sperry Rand Industries before accepting employment at Defense Depot Ogden, where she worked for many years, retiring in 1973. Upon her retirement, she began working full time side by side with her husband Jim in the family business, Strebel and Sons Taxidermy and Sporting Goods. She always said that he was the best boss she ever had and she looked forward to work each day.
Over the years she enjoyed bowling, golfing, and she served a term as the president of the Riverside/Lakeside Ladies Golf Association and competed at numerous events. She feared nothing and proved that by parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, hunting, and archery, capturing the title of State Archery Champion several times. She was a charter member of Mt. Ogden Archers. Mom has out-fished every man that dared to go fishing with her.
Connie worked side by side with Jim and many of their family and friends building a cabin at Manor Lands in the Uintah Mountains which they shared with everyone that has touched their lives. She felt very fortunate in 1968 to draw out on a once in a lifetime permit to hunt and shoot a buffalo in the Henrys’ Mountain Range with Jim and family members by her side. The trophy Bison head adorned a spot of honor on the living room wall. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveled around the world with them, from Belgium and the Netherlands’, to New Zealand, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and to the eastern and western Caribbean islands.
In 1998 she met another wonderful man, Fillmore J. McCann (Mac), of Gardnerville, NV, who joined her life and her family and they spent each day in the pursuit of love, happiness companionship, and caring for one another. They enjoyed cribbage, card games, friends, and traveling.
Mom loved music, singing, people and visiting, which is something that she cherished, she comes by her “Gift of Gab” naturally. Everyone she met became her friend. Over the years she would tell everyone that her initials are “CRS”- which stands for “Can’t remember $hit”.
She is survived by her children: Terry (Bob) Kilburn and Christy (Mike) Stimpson, both of South Ogden. She adored nine grandchildren, 21 great-grand children, and two great-great-grandchildren, who all love her deeply and are proud to call her Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma.
Also surviving are her sisters-in law, Noretta (George) Huddleston, Sharon (Garry) Dahl, Bernice (Carl) Strebel, Gloria (Leonard) Wadman, and many nieces and nephews. Mom is also survived by many loving and caring admirers and friends that she regarded as family members and they returned that same love and bond to her.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, her sister, Lorraine Barrow and brother, Leonard Wadman, her two daughters, Sherrian Burnett and Debbie Garner Strebel , and her in-laws, Bill and Mattie Strebel.
The family would like to express our profound appreciation, gratitude and love to the staff at Legacy House of Ogden where Mom received loving and attentive support and care since June. Also, we express a special thanks to Debbie Phipps who guided us to the support of Haven Hospice, whose staff, Kathy Chultheis (RN), cared for Mom, and especially to Kenya Beecroft (aide) who gave her so much love that Mom thought of her as if she were another daughter. Alzheimer’s disease may have robbed Mom of her memory, but it could not strip away her love for family and their love for her in return.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
