Connie H. Spencer
SLATERVILLE - Connie Hooper Spencer, 75, passed away from kidney failure at her home on Monday, September 7, 2009 with her loved ones near.
Connie was born on September 15, 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Conrad and Evelyn Burgi Hooper. She loved spending time with her sister, Gloria Jennings. She graduated from Ogden High School.
She married Jesse Spencer on February 17, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The greatest happiness in her life were her two children, Phillip and Joy. Upon her marriage to Jesse she became a homemaker and spent the rest of her life in Slaterville.
Connie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and particularly enjoyed being a visiting teacher coordinator for 14 years.
Being a part of the Red and Purple Hat Society brought her joy. Knitting and crocheting slippers for every baby, wedding, birthday and grandchild was her trademark. Hundreds of people cannot think of Connie without thinking of the slippers she made for them. Her favorite things to do were watching old movies, talking endlessly with her close friends on the phone and savoring chocolate.
Connie loved being a grandmother and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was special. Her grandkids knew they were always welcome and loved and could find a good treat.
Surviving are her children, Phillip (Louise) Spencer, Marriott-Slaterville; Joy Zapata, Twin Falls, ID; sister, Gloria Jennings, brother-in-law, Wesley (Lenore) Spencer, her dear cousin, Verna May Boss and lifetime friend, Zelma Bailey. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Carter and Hagen, who have all been the light of her life along with her many nieces and nephews whom she loved.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Health Watch/Caring Hands Hospice nurses and aides for their nine months of tender, loving care.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
