Constance "Connie" Dean

Constance Marie Dean November 2, 1944 – January 17, 2025 Age 80

Constance "Connie" Marie Dean, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, at the age of 80. Her life was a tapestry of love, humor, and resilience. She is survived by her husband, Ron Dean; children Brian (Monica), Shane (Allison), and Taylor (Mandy), along with nine grandchildren. Also grieving her loss are her siblings Jerry Hallas, Kenny Hallas, and Judy Taylor. Preceded in death by her parents.

Connie was born on November 2, 1944, in Portland Oregon, to Lyle and Olga (Pat) Hallas. Growing up in Blackfoot Idaho, she spent her summers at the city pool with her siblings and friends. Like many less privileged children of the area, she worked each fall picking potatoes, earning money for school clothes. Connie moved back to Portland for her Junior year of high school, where she worked at the Taco House and cheered at Madison High School. Upon graduating in 1963 Connie earned a beautician’s license. Shortly thereafter she applied for the position of stewardess at Western Airlines. Hired and stationed in Salt Lake City, her life took a major turn meeting the love of her life Ron Dean. They were married on May 4, 1968, at the 8th Ward Chapel in Salt Lake City, UT. 

For seven years after their marriage, Connie worked as a flight attendant supporting Ron in his business startups. First with the Iron Anvil and later with Cottonwood Steel. Retiring from Western, she began her family in 1975

Connie’s early life was shaped by a challenging environment. Her determination to never again be in poverty drove Connie to perpetually advance herself professionally. She earned a Paralegal certificate, Real Estate license, held an Associate of Science, a B.S. in Criminal Justice / Social Work, and a M.S. of Counseling and Mental Health. 

Connie loved to tend her flowers, play tennis, read mystery novels and the paper. She was always current on world events and usually had a strong opinion about each of them. Connie was also a prolific shopper. Her family would joke, if there was ever a professional, she was one.

Ron and Connie were sealed in 1998 in the Bountiful Temple. Later in life she would volunteer there and in the LDS Family History Library.

Connie had a fiery personality and a witty sense of humor full of sarcasm which she may have passed onto her three sons. Connie always looked classy, and expected the same from her family, emphasizing the importance of manners, politeness, and dressing with dignity. Her home was neat, welcoming, and full of warmth. She had an uncanny ability to make every visitor welcome.

 Always there to listen, to comfort, and offer friendly counsel when needed. Connie’s generous spirit and love for her family and friends will continue to inspire those who shared in her life. She will be missed.
