Cora Jones
May praises of love and honor rise to the heavens in testament of the beautiful life of our Mother, Cora Eleanor Cook Jones.
Born June 24, 1909, in Avon, Utah, to David Hunter Cook and Chloe Leila Burrell, Cora was the fifth child of twelve children. Born two months early, she was not expected to live. Knowing this, she has always expressed gratitude for her life. She attended Cache County schools and married Glenn Murdock Jones of Logan on November 20, 1930 in Brigham City, Utah. Their vows were solemnized March 11, 1954 in the Logan Temple. Glenn passed away September 23, 1974.
Cora was an inspiration to her family and to everyone who knew her. When people told her she never aged, she told them age is only a number and she would always be young at heart. She attributed her long life of 102 years to working hard, making the most of each day, never getting angry, and keeping a positive outlook. Widowed for nearly 37 years, she realized that sorrow, tears, storms, sunshine and laughter are all part of living.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and active all of her life, she served in all organizations. She was the first Relief Society President of the Clearfield Sixth Ward. Truly she lived her life according to the Relief Society motto, "Charity Never Faileth."
After sixty-seven years, with the loving assistance of her five children and their spouses, Cora resided at home in Clearfield until her passing on July 21, 2011. Her children and their spouses are Doyle and Cleo (deceased) Jones, Max and Rosemary Jones, Madeline and Wayne Barlow, Michael and Gloria Jones, Nancy and Wesley Rutledge. She loved and adored her precious 18 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren; they called her "CoCo." She is survived by her large and immediate family along with three sisters; Ethel Winslow, Janet Summers and Lavonne Kimbrell.
Funeral services recognizing Cora''s life of love, service and friendship will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family are invited to reminisce together on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
A graveside service will be held the following day, Thursday, July 28, at 12 p.m. at the Avon Cemetery, Avon, Utah. She will be buried aside the grave of her "Glennie," the one she loved, cherished and thought about every day since their parting.
We express deep appreciation and gratitude to Ed and Ruth Hoggan, her devoted and loved home teachers; to Dr. Bruce Burtenshaw who cared for her so warmly through the years; and to the staff of Rocky Mountain Care Hospice for their kind and sensitive end-of-life care.
Our beautiful and beloved Mother, your everlasting love and grace are your legacy and our gift forever.
