Corrine Evelyn Cowley Berg

September 13, 1926 ~ July 12, 2017

Corrine Evelyn Cowley Berg, 90, our dear mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2017.

She was born in Logan, Utah, on September 13, 1926, the eldest of five children born to Merlin Joseph Cowley and Opal Evelyn Cash. She loved growing up in Logan and had many fond memories of her childhood there. She graduated from Logan High School in 1944 and three days later began nurses’ training at the Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.  She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1947.

While she was in nurses’ training during WWII, Corrine met her eternal companion, Carl Reuben Berg, a handsome paratrooper on leave. After only one date, he returned to his unit and was shipped overseas for two years. They kept in touch by mail, and when he returned, they dated for 9 months. He then served an LDS mission. Finally, after his return, they were married on September 16, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple.

During their married life, Rue and Corrine lived in Salt Lake, Logan, and finally Ogden, where Corrine has resided for the past 59 years. They had six children, three boys and three girls. The home they created was one filled with love and laughter, where faith was nurtured and gospel principles were taught by example. After 40 years of marriage, Rue passed away on October 5, 1989.

Corrine was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings, and following Rue’s death, served in the Family History Mission in Salt Lake City. She had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and of her Savior.  She loved to attend the temple and always found great happiness in serving others.

She also helped and served others in her chosen profession. She worked part-time as an RN for almost 40 years, finishing her nursing career at the McKay-Dee Hospital Psychiatric Unit. She retired in 1986.

Corrine found her greatest joy in her family. She loved every family member and had a wonderful gift for connecting individually with each one. She is loved dearly and we will all miss her hugs, her thoughtful birthday cards, her tremendous example, and most of all her unconditional love. Her influence will be felt for generations to come.

She is survived by her six children, C. Stacey (Pat) Berg, Alice (David) Smith, Susan (Mitch) Sherman, Steven (Julie) Berg, Patricia (Mark) Abbott, and Michael (Shelly) Berg, 35 grandchildren, and 87 great-grandchildren, with 4 more on the way.  She is also survived by her brother, Gloyd Cowley, and two sisters-in-law, Joan Cowley and Myra Berg.  She was preceded in death by her husband, one great-grandchild, Corrine Mae Berg, and three siblings, Lucy Beth Cahoon, Jodie Cowley, and Joseph Cowley.

Special thanks to the Intermountain Hospice team for their tender care of our mother in her last days.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, July 17th, 2017, at the Lorin Farr 3rd Ward Chapel, 1608 E. 1300 S., Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Willard Cemetery.
