Craig H Jessop
January 21, 1953 ~ February 9, 2015
On Monday night, February 9, 2015, the lights went dimmer in the Jessop household. Our lives were altered in a devastating way when PSC took our loved one. Craig was a gentle giant who quietly lived an honest, faithful life. He disliked contention and went to great lengths to have peace. He loved the chaos when we had our monthly family dinners. He wanted things to be fair in every way for everyone.
Craig was born to Howard and June Jessop on January 21, 1953. His family spent time fishing, boating and with extended family. He graduated in 1971 from Weber High School where he was a class officer. He participated in wrestling, football, singing, track and skiing. It was there that he gained a great love for the German language.
Craig’s dreams came true when he was called by President Joseph Fielding Smith to the Germany Central Mission. He served humbly and prayerfully in this labor of love. As he faced trials, his faith became stronger.
After returning home, Craig attended BYU majoring in German with a minor in English. On February 14, 1976, his heart leapt as he saw Robyn Hoopes enter his apartment. After a whirlwind romance, consisting of studying at the library and getting ice cream on the way home, they were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on July 14, 1976.
Craig began his teaching career in Cortez, CO. Four years later the family moved to North Ogden where he spent the next 16 years teaching German. Wanting his students to truly experience the language, he began a German Exchange program with the Realschule Hohenhameln. He had the privilege of taking students to Germany 7 different times and made some lifelong friends there. He then changed his focus and went into administration, working in many secondary schools in Weber School District. Again, he always wanted to be honest and fair as he worked with students and teachers. He retired after 36 years of influencing many students and creating many friendships.
The gospel of Jesus Christ was the core of Craig’s existence. He studied the scriptures daily and faithfully served in many callings, with his favorite being a Gospel Doctrine teacher. He truly was a servant of Christ.
The family was very important in Craig’s life and we are left with many memories of boating, fishing, camping, building the family cabin, the July 4 th breakfasts, Christmas Eve parties where he taught the Nativity to the grandchildren, his German Apple pancakes and his beautiful singing voice.
Craig is survived by his wife, Robyn, of 38 years, their 3 children and spouses and 12 grandchildren: Brandon (Karly) – Karson, Brecklyn, Ainsley; Andrea (Rob) – Carley, Luke, Ben, Gracie, Téa; Carissa (Ricky) – Kambry, Dax, Jace, Mya; his sister Carolyn (Jim) Ward and brother Rich (Sharla) Jessop. He was preceded in death by his dear sweet parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Ben Lomond 9 th Ward Chapel, 575 East 3100 North, North Ogden. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N Washington Blvd, and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
No words can express the love and prayers our family has felt from former students, colleagues, friends, neighbors and the ward. Thank you from all of us.
