Craig V. Johns
PLEASANT VIEW - Our loving, kind, and gentle husband, father, son, and uncle Craig Vernal Johns returned home to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 9, 2007. He was born August 5, 1947 in North Ogden to William Vernal and Lois (Sherman) Johns. He is the oldest of ten children. At the age of twelve, his family moved to Monroe, Utah. Craig often spoke of the good old days on the farm and of the wonderful bonds of friendship made, and still cherished today, at South Sevier High School.
On June 14, 1975 Craig married his eternal companion, Susan Barton, and shared a beautiful partnership for thirty-two years. Craig was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many capacities over the years on both a stake and ward level. One of his favorite callings was serving in the Ogden Temple.
He was employed at Hill Air Force Base where he worked as a Branch Chief and held many other executive positions. In 1994 he and his family had the opportunity to work and live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Craig made many lasting impressions on co-workers both here and overseas with his genuine love and concern for their personal welfare and cherished the many friendships he made throughout his career. His kind-hearted, loving, and gentle manner was an example to all who knew him. He instilled values of family, faith, honesty, work, service, and love for all. Although his life was full of many accomplishments, Craig would often proclaim that his greatest legacy is his family.
Craig is survived by his wife, Susan, and children: Jennifer (AJ) Kapinos, Jed Johns, Jill (Trent) Toone, Joni (Scott) Slater, Jeffrey Johns, Jacob Johns, Scott Young, Shane (Mindy) Young, and Michael Young. Also surviving are his father, William Vernal Johns, brothers and sisters: Leigh (Kathryn) Johns, Kurt (Konnie) Johns, Darlene (Randy) Jewkes, Garth (Melody) Johns, Vicki (Stan) Hunt, Mary Lois (Paul) Foreman, Jay (Susan) Johns, Ann (Mike) Morby, Keith Johns, as well as many nieces, nephews, and his grandchildren.
Craig and the family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and a special thank you to Dr. Kelly Amann and Erica with Hearts for Hospice for their continued support and compassion.
How truly blessed we have been in having the influence of Craig in our lives. He will be forever in our hearts. We will miss you…we love you.
