C. Ray Sewell

Chester Ray Sewell, 99, passed away April 4, 2018. Ray was born in Slaterville, Utah on March 16, 1919. He was the sixth of seven children born to Arthur James and Mary Eliza Martin Sewell. He was a hard worker all his life and he thoroughly enjoyed cars. He bought his first car a model T when he was just 15.
Ray served in the Navy in 1943 in WWII for 34 months and was stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea as a Seabee.
He married Vera Sorensen in 1941 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had three daughters. Ray and Vera were later divorced and he married Lola Mecham in 1967.
Ray owned and operated a successful Auto Body business for nearly 35 yrs. He also owned a car lot and a small café next door to his Auto Body Shop.
Ray enjoyed vacationing, boating, snowmobiling, doing anything outdoors. He and Lola traveled in their motorhome for many years and he also built a summer home in Bear Lake. He loved playing cards with his family. Ray had the most remarkable memory and he kept up on technology.
Ray was the last of his siblings to pass away. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Dennis) Petersen, Janine Porter, Rayann (Gary) Stoker, stepson Lyle (Linda) Wheelwright and stepdaughter Patricia (Dennis) Peters; 15 grandchildren, 38 great- grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
